Mulch Buying Guide: Choosing the Right Color and Quantity for Your Project
J&J Pallet Co. · 4 min read

J&J mulch is made from 100% recycled materials and comes in black, red, and brown. Here is how to pick the right type and amount.
A fresh layer of mulch is one of the fastest ways to improve the look of a landscape and the health of plants. At J&J Pallet Co., our mulch is made from 100% recycled materials—wood chips, grass clippings, and bark chips—so you get a premium product while keeping organic waste out of the landfill.
We offer three colors: black, red, and brown. Black mulch creates a bold, modern contrast against green foliage and light-colored homes. Red mulch adds a warm, classic look that works well in traditional gardens and commercial beds. Brown mulch blends naturally with soil and bark, making it a versatile choice for large properties and wooded settings.
Beyond appearance, mulch provides real horticultural benefits. It helps suppress weeds, reduces evaporation so soil stays moist longer, and insulates plant roots from extreme temperatures. A two- to three-inch layer is usually enough for most flower beds and landscaped areas. Too little will not block weeds; too much can trap moisture against plant stems and cause rot.
Not sure how much to order? A standard cubic yard of mulch covers about 100 square feet at three inches deep. Measure your beds in feet, multiply length by width, then divide by 100 to estimate cubic yards. If the math feels tricky, call the mulch line at 570-382-8403 and we will help you figure it out.
We sell mulch in bulk for wholesale landscapers and in smaller quantities for homeowners. Whether you are refreshing a small front bed or covering acres of commercial property, J&J has the quantity, color, and quality you need.
Stop by the yard at 1000 Marshwood Rd in Throop, Monday through Saturday, 7:00am to 3:30pm, or call ahead to place an order.
